中文摘要 | 神經語言學家 Eric Lenneberg 提出「關鍵期假說(the critical period hypothesis)」,認為語言學習習得過了關鍵期,就不可能學得像本地人(native speaker)一樣好。因此大眾多深信銀髮族不適合語言學習,尤其是第二外語。但 Cummins 認為雙語學習如同二座看似分離的冰山,底層卻有中心操作系統將雙語串聯起來,母語的基礎越好越能幫助第二外語習得。由於高齡的語言學習者擁有豐富的人生經驗及事先存在的態度和預先的知識(Prior knowledge),對雙語的認知有相當的助益。另外,許多近年來的醫學報導認為雙語能減緩愛滋海默或老人痴呆症,所以關鍵期假說的信度是令人質疑的。Krashen的「情意濾網假說」理論指出:在焦慮、缺乏信心、和低學習動機下,其情意濾網會阻擋一些有意義的語言訊息,使得學習者無法獲得這些訊息。因此,如何為銀髮族營造一個無壓力、鼓勵的、關懷的、以及能夠誘發學習者學習動機的學習環境,是語言教師最重要的教學策略之一。 |
英文摘要 | Ever since the prevailing hypothesia of Critical Period (1967),learners have been condsidered unable to acquire a full command of language if comprehensible input does not occur especially before puberty.This study was aimed to investigate the stereotype for older adult language learners to evaluate the assumption that holds that elderly must be poor language learners.Research theory was based on Cummins'Iceberg Analogy,Krashen's Affective Filter Hypothesis,Smith's,and Soderbergh's social-cognitive models in the hope of providing the ultimate scaffolding for understanding learners'differences.Significantly,evidences suggest that bilingualism contributes delaying dementia compared to monolingual older adults.The author concluded that if language teacher can create a learning environment that employ materials,activities,and teaching strategies that combine elderly'real life experiences as well as their individual differences,language learning for older adults can be affirmative and enjoyable. |
