英文摘要 | The main purpose of this study is to compare teachers' view versus parents' view on young children's play. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used for this study. Data were collected by questionnaire and semi-structure interview, and the results can be summarized as follows: (a) Both teachers and parents affirm the importance of children's play; and no significant differences were found between teachers and parents on degree of importance they assign to young children's play. However, the importance of play, when being compared to other courses, was significantly downplayed by parents as compared by teachers. (b) The primary difference between parents and teachers lied in their different views on the functions of play: parents thought that the play served as a release of pressure resulted from a learning session; teachers, however, thought that the play could let young children learn a lot of abilities needed in the future. (c) Teachers considered movement play, constructive play, pretend play, and group game as more important; while parents considered plays associated with classroom curriculum, constructive play, linguistic play, and movement play as more important. (d) The above difference was probably due to different goals set by parents and teachers on children's education. Parents paid relatively more attention to cognitive and physical development, while teachers paid attention not merely to cognitive and physical development, but also to social and moral development. |
