英文摘要 | The question of whether the thought of Wang Bi ( 王弼 ) and Guo Xiang ( 郭象 ) should be seen as belonging to the two very opposed ideas of gui wu ( 貴無 , emphasizing nothingness) and chung you ( 崇有 , glorifying being ) or whether, taken together, they represent a continuous, internal develop-ment in Taoist thought is one of the most thorny problems in the history of the metaphysics of the Wei and Jin periods. This paper takes a new look at this problem from two perspectives. The first asks whether Wang's yi wu wei ben ( 以無為本 , taking nothingness as a basis ) and Guo's zao wu wu zhu ( 造物無主 , in the making of things there is no creator ) are two competing answers to the question of whether a metaphysical entity exists or an attempt to resolve the hermeneutical problem of how to interpret wu ( 無 , nothingness) and ziran ( 自然 , natural ) in Taoism. The second asks whether Guo's formulation ji yan chu yi ( 寄言出意 , embedding meaning in words ) implies a special hermeneutical perspective and what its relation with Wang's view of the hermeneutics of language is. By discussing these two issues, this paper shows that the thought of Wang Bi and Guo Xiang is not contradictory but rather represents a continued development and that the two complement each other to make up a complete discourse, albeit on two different levels. At the same time, we see that the hermeneutical leanings of Wang Bi and Guo Xian draw on the texts of the Laozi and the Chuangzi. |
