英文摘要 | Research has shown that language forms used by children are often function dependent, i.e., children often make distinction among linguistic forms according to the communicative functions to be achieved. However, our understandings of the connection between communicative function and linguistic form largely remain on the descriptive level. Without understanding the principles underlying the process in which form and function are linked, we are likely to continue to describe the skewed distributions of certain forms and functions found in child language data without being able to explain why it happens that way. After reviewing and critiquing some existing research, this paper points out some potentially fertile areas for investigating the processes in which the link between forms and functions are formed. Three sections are lincluded in this paper. In the first section I summarize and discuss the approaches and findings of some studies on the relationship between discourse functions and linguistic forms. In the section that follows, I discuss some limitations of these studies. Then in the final section I Suggest some directions for future research which may shed light on the principles underlying the function- form connection. |
