中文摘要 | 本研究旨在探討大專生的英語主動與被動字彙知識。研究工具為主動與被動字彙測驗;統計分析的變數包含學習者的主修、性別、及居住區域;學生主動與被動字彙知識的關係也是觀察的面向之一。在質的分析上試圖從學生在中文翻譯及英文造句的錯誤中觀察母語對第二語言學習的影響。研究結果發現學生的字彙量非常有限,其中主修與性別差異顯著影響其字彙量的多寡。再者,學生在兩種測驗的分數呈現正相關。然而,學生的主動字彙知識是非常薄弱的。因此,英語教學者如何提升學生主動字彙知識應是不容忽視的一大課題。 |
英文摘要 | The present study investigated the active and passive vocabulary knowledge of the college EFL students in Taiwan. Both active and passive vocabulary tests were administered to 156 subjects. Learners’ factors such as academic majors, gender, and residential areas were taken into consideration in analyzing vocabulary tests. Relationships between passive and active vocabulary knowledge were also explored. In addition, students’ performance in the tests was analyzed qualitatively. The errors from L1 translation and L2 sentence making were analyzed and classified into patterns to investigate the L1 interference in L2 learning. The results show that academic majors and gender play an important role in both passive and active vocabulary knowledge in spite of the limited knowledge of the students in general. Academic majors, however, seem to be the more important factor influencing the acquisition of vocabulary. Furthermore, students’ scores on both tests were highly correlated even though their active vocabulary knowledge was much poorer than the passive one. The findings from this study call for a recognition of the importance of improving students’ active vocabulary knowledge in EFL teaching. |
