英文摘要 | In this paper the relevance of Confucianism to the evolution of humankind is presented, placing special emphasis on its metaphysical viewpoint. The authors view Confucianism through the prism of science, proposing the term scientific parahumanism (超人本主義) to describe it. They pose that one of the first written scientific attempts to delineate a scale of human evolution in China appears in the Zhongyong (《中庸》), traditionally translated as The Doctrine of the Mean. This work presents evolutionary models, as shown by the superior man and the sage. As well, it involves a broader approach than that found in earlier Confucian works as it addresses the multiple dimensions of the universe, expressed through its metaphysical perspective. One of the major aspects of this more extensive view is seen in the state of “oneness,” or that condition in which the evolved individual is capable of being aligned with the cosmos or Tian (天). The authors also cite how many Confucian concepts are applicable in a number of contemporary areas of knowledge, such as: education, psychology and conscientiology. Throughout this paper, aspects of Confucianism are compared to concepts in conscientiology (意識學) - the science that researches the human consciousness - which serves to reinforce the pertinence of Confucianism today. Parallels are made between the evolutionary models illustrated in Confucianism and those outlined by conscientiology. Many ancient Confucian concepts are shown to be relevant to engendering greater evolution and world harmony. |
