英文摘要 | Objective: Embryo transfer (ET) is traditionally performed two days after oocyte retrieval to avoid embryo loss as a result of inadequacy of the in vitro culture system. However, a prolonged growth period might result in a better selection of embryos and a more optimal stage of transfer. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical characteristics of patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) with varied timing of the embryo transfer and the resulting reproductive outcomes. Methods: We enrolled women undergoing IVE-ET in our IVF program from 1991 through 1997. The etiology of infertility was exclusively tubal factor and all patients received at least two transferred embryos. Altogether 27 cycles underwent day 3 ET (group 1) and 148 underwent day 2 ET (group 2). Results: Clinical characteristics, including age, serum estradiol level and number of follicles ≧ 10 mm on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin administration, numbers of oocytes retrieved and fertilized, numbers of embryos transferred and embryos damaged were not statistically different between the two groups. Pregnancy rates were similar between group 1 and group 2 (33% vs. 32%) and there were no differences in terms of gestational sac numbers (20 ± 1.1 vs. 1.8 ± 1.2), implantation rates (18% vs. 14%), multiple pregnancy rates (56% vs. 38%) and high-order multiple pregnancy rates (33% vs. 23%). Conclusions: Day 3 ET achieved a reproductive outcome similar to day 2 ET. Therefore, it serves as an alternative approach when day 2 ET is inappropriate for clinical practice. |
