英文摘要 | Writing like any living matter is organic and it naturally follows that writing must have an organization by itself. This paper traces the development of Western rhetoric from the ancient times since Aristotle and examines the findings of Kaplan's contrastive rhetoric by international students in particular reference to EFL students in Taiwan. Two pieces of students writing proved Kaplan's theory that our EFL students did not know how to wirte coherently on the basis of Western rhetoric. However, after almost a year's instruction and having been provided with a model essay to imitate in terms of organization, organization did emerge in their products. Our results clearly indicate that contrastive rhetoric is a matter of reality in EFL writing and we can pedagogically imply that students can be modified from their L1 writing tradition by teaching L2 rhetoric through practice by imitating organization from typical models. |
