英文摘要 | Antidepressants, including tricyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, are associated with the induction of hypomania and mania. Venlafaxine, a selective serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, is a member of a newer class of antidepressants, which have been suspected of contributing to antidepressant-induced mania. We describe the case of a 47-year-old woman with recurrent major depressive episodes. She developed hypomania again, which may have been under the dosage of 40 mg/day of fluoxetine-induced, after taking venlafaxine for 11 days. Her hypomanic symptoms improved gradually when the dosage of venlafaxine was reduced from 150 mg/day to 75 mg/day. While venlafaxine appears to be a safe and effective antidepressant medication for major depressive disorder and bipolar II major depression, like all other antidepressants, it has the potential to contribute to drug-induced mania or hypomania and should be use with caution in patients with possible bipolar disorder. |
