英文摘要 | This paper examines passive optical star-coupled structures as an approach to inter-processor communication in a distributed memory, MIMD (multiple instruction. Multiple data) environment. Star-coupled structures with WDMA(wavelength division multiple access) exhibit optical self-routing along an optical multiple access channel. The self-routing characteristic achieves the following results: a significant reduction in the intermediary latencies typical with distributed memory machines, reduction degree and diameter of the processor interconnection structures, and a reduction in the complexity of the communication subsystem. This paper considers three types of star-coupled structures: single-channel, multiple-subchannel through WDMA via tunable transmitters, and multiple-subchannel through WDMA via tunable receivers. A protocol is required to provide media access control along a (sub) channel. This paper considers time division multiple access (TDMA) due to its stable behavior with heavy traffic. This paper analyzes the performance of a single-channel structure with TDMA (Time-Division Multiple Access) protocol using a modified M/M/1 queueing model derived from M/D/1 model based on local balance property. Simulations and comparisons are given. Multiple-subchannel structures with TDMA protocol are then studied. The results of the models are then extended to a γ-dimensional hypercube based structure, with WDMA and TDMA as the set of bandwidth allocation and access protocols. Simulation is used to verify the results predicted by the models. |
