中文摘要 | 本研究以組織生態理論為基礎,探討「組織死亡」與「產業變遷」兩項議題。樣本共含857家工廠,時間範圍涵蓋1964年至2000年,本研究以logistic迴歸模型檢視影響組織死亡的因素,此外,並以專家訪談法深入探討產業之變遷。主要之研究結果為(1)制度環境會影響組織之存續,其中以經濟成長率及同業死亡數目對組織死亡的解釋力特別顯著。(2)組織死亡率與集群密度之間呈U型關係,死亡率會先隨著集群密度的增加而遞減,當集群密度達到某一低點後,死亡率則呈現遞增的情況。(3)組織改變並未增加組織死亡的可能性。(4)組織之死亡率會隨著年齡而遞減。最後,本研究亦對管理意涵與未來之研究建議提出討論。 |
英文摘要 | In this article, we draw on organizational ecology theory to investigate the issue of organizational mortality and industrial evolution. The sample includes 857 factories and yearly data are collected from 1964 to 2000 to analyze the significant determinants of the organizational mortality by using a logistic regression model. In addition, expert opinion method is applied to explore the industry's evolution. There are four major findings: (1) Institutional environmental variables, especially economic growth rate and number of peer deaths, are related to organizational mortality. (2) There is an U shape between mortality rate and population density. At low levels of density, a negative relationship is found between mortality rate and population density. The mortality rate decreases as population density increases, at least up to some density, after which the mortality rate increases. (3) Organizational change is unrelated to the propensity of organizations to die. (4) Organizational mortality rate declines with age. Implications of these findings for management practice and future research are discussed. |
