| 英文摘要 | This study argues that, to understand how Liang Shu-ming's struggles to create a culture adequate to the needs of the world today, it is essential to reexamine the Chinese Communist revolution and Liang's historical theories and concepts constructed therefrom. The focus of this paper is on the nature of Confucianism, modernity, modernization, and Westernization. The cultural factor in China's development is emphasized, with culture treated especially as a "feedback" system in which, for example, modernity evoked a reaction of tradition. A range of comparative examples in Confucianism and Marxism will be given. The conclusion is that Liang could estimate the heavy burden of the past because of his clear faith in the future, his definite vision of its contours. |
