英文摘要 | Poetry is a condensed form of language, which presents the emotional, aesthetic, and intellectual perceptions of the poet, So studying English poetry must be a very pleasant and profitable experience. But to the best of my knowledge, some ESL students in undergraudate or graduate school fail to share the experience. Some of them even take no interest in English poetry at all. To cope with the situation, this paper attempts to offer some suggestions for using a linguistic approach to the teaching of English poetry. In fact all these suggestions result from my long experience in teaching linguistics and English literature in both undergraduate and graduate schools. This suggested areas for the analysis include lexical items, stanzaic pattern, rhythm and meter, rhyme-scheme, alliteration, assonance, consonance, phonological and syntactic rules, etc. For the interst of the reader, seven poems are carefully selected from English poetry in the Romantic Period. |
