英文摘要 | Background: Head trauma is a cause of significant morbidity and mortality in all societies. The purpose of this preliminary study was to evaluate the potential usefulness of 99mTc-ethyl cysteinate dimer (ECD) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in patients with persistent clinical symptoms and absence of morphological abnormalities using computed tomography (CT) after mild or moderate closed head injury. Methods: Our study included 18 patients who suffered from persistent clinical complaints after mild or moderate closed head trauma. The most common complaints were headache, poor memory and dizziness. However, the results of brain CT scan revealed negative findings in all patients. All patients received the 99mTc-ECD SPECT brain imaging (9 studies performed within 6 months of the date of injury and 9 studies performed more than 6 months post-injury). None of these patients had previous traumatic brain injury, CVA, psychiatric disorders or history of drug or alcohol abuse. Results: The results of 99mTc-ECD SPECT brain imaging showed that 7 patients had normal study and 11 patients were abnormal (one in the frontal lobe, nine in the temporal lobe and one in the frontal and temporal lobes). Conclusion: Through our study, we conclude that 99mTc-ECD SPECT brain imaging is a useful imaging method, as a complement to CT, for evaluation of cerebral perfusion changes following mild or moderate traumatic brain injury in morphologically intact brain regions and providing objective evidence for persistent clinical symptoms. |
