英文摘要 | Reading proficiency tests aim t assess how well readers are able to comprehend written text. Among the various types of reading tests, the cloze test has been recognized as an integrative, efficient, and effective instrument that may fulfil this goal. This paper focuses on a review of the roles of cloze tests in evaluating English reading proficiency and gives a thorough discussion of how a test writer or classroom teacher might apply a cloze test to measure English reading performance in English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) settings. The ways of designing and using cloze tests are delineated in terms of three basic components: passage preparation and selection, system of item deletion, and scoring methods. In conclusion, certain precautions and suggestions are provided for non-native EFL teachers or test builders who will use cloze tests. |
